The Democratization of AI: Reflections on Web Summit Vancouver 2025

Reflections from Web Summit Vancouver 2025: AI is no longer just for technologists — it’s transforming every industry. From HR to marketing to law, the future belongs to those who embrace and shape it. Here’s why I’m optimistic — and open to new tech clients.

After 17 years in the tech industry, one thing remains true: nothing stays the same. And this year at Web Summit Vancouver, it was clear — AI isn’t just a buzzword. It’s the engine of human progress.

But let’s be honest: it’s complicated. The headlines love to paint AI as the villain — automating jobs, disrupting industries, and creating uncertainty. What we don’t hear enough about is the opportunity. The potential for humans to pivot, re-skill, and build alongside this new wave of tools.

We are at an inflection point. Either we resist change and risk irrelevance — or we lean in and shape what’s next. What inspired me most wasn’t just the technology on display, but the breadth of industries and individuals engaging with it. This wasn’t a room full of engineers and data scientists — it was marketers, creatives, HR leaders, lawyers, bankers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs. AI is being democratized, and the global conversation has officially begun.

Soon, every company will be a tech company. That’s not hyperbole — it’s the mindset shift required to stay relevant in today’s economy.

Personally, attending Web Summit felt like a homecoming after two years away from tech. It reconnected me with Vancouver’s incredible tech ecosystem (especially the inspiring Women in Tech community) and reminded me of the collective power we have to solve complex problems with smart, ethical, and intentional innovation.

With that in mind: I’m opening up capacity for a couple of new technology clients — whether you need strategic communications for a one-off launch or ongoing fractional support. If you’re building something exciting, let’s talk. DM me anytime — I’d love to help you tell your story.

Why Do 70 to 90% of M&A Deals Fail?

Why do most M&A deals fail? It’s not the numbers – it’s the narrative. Poor communication derails alignment, spooks stakeholders, and weakens culture. As an M&A communications strategist, I help dealmakers craft messaging that builds trust from Day 1 through integration. Because when the story holds up, the deal does too. #mergersandacquisitions #MAcommunications #postmergerintegration #internalcomms #changemanagement

It’s rarely because of the financials. It’s almost never about the legal due diligence. More often than not, it comes down to people – and the stories they’re told (or not told) during a deal.

I’ve spent over a decade leading M&A communication across global tech and biotech organizations. And I’ve seen firsthand how overlooked this part of the process can be.

When communication is treated as an afterthought – rather than an integral part of the deal strategy – teams disengage, customers get nervous, media misinterpret the narrative, and competitors capitalize on the confusion.

Here’s what effective M&A communications actually do:

·       Align internal teams early – before the announcement hits the wire

·       Anticipate and address stakeholder concerns (employees, customers, investors)

·       Shape the public narrative to build confidence in the market

·       Support cultural integration post-close, which is where many synergies stall

If you’re acquiring a company – or preparing to be acquired – you’ve likely brought in the best lawyers, bankers, and consultants. But have you considered who’s managing the message?

Who’s making sure your leadership team says the same thing, with confidence and clarity?

Who’s translating the vision into something that builds trust – not just headlines?

Who’s keeping your people engaged when everything feels uncertain?

That’s where I come in.

At Eleven Eleven Communications, I partner with executive teams and deal leads to build tailored M&A communications strategies – from pre-announcement through post-close integration.

Because a deal’s success shouldn’t hinge on how fast you can get to Day 1 – it should hinge on how well your story holds up on Day 100.
